He Played 5 Full Seasons as Versatile Alabama Safety, Served as 'Bama Team Captain Past 2 Years

The Jets have signedMalachi Moore, their fourth-round selection (130th overall) in the 2025 draft, to his first NFL contract.
Moore (5-11, 196), a versatile safety who played nickel and corner as well in his time at Alabama, was pumped about being the choice of first-year Jets general manager Darren Mougey and first-year head coach Aaron Glenn. "It definitely means something special for them to look at me and feel like I can contribute to the success of this organization," he said. "I'm excited, man, I'm truly blessed."
Moore also served the past two seasons as a team captain on the Tide.
"Malachi being a captain, that tells what he is," Glenn said, "so he's going to have a chance to compete for a safety spot."
The new HC also was intrigued when talking before the draft with his former Detroit Lions safety, Brian Branch, who was two years ahead of Moore at 'Bama and described Moore as a "dog."
"Then having a chance to watch him on tape and see exactly how he operates, listen, he fits us to a tee," Glenn said. "He has some versatility and I see him being utilized just like that."
Moore played five seasons for the Crimson Tide due to the full year of eligibility afforded college athletes from the 2020 Covid season. He totaled 64 games (46 starts), 214 tackles, 7 interceptions and 25 pass defenses, with his 70 tackles and 8 PDs last season career highs.
He also played contributed to the Tide's two most recent national championship teams. He played in the loss after the 2021 season to Georgia, after injury kept him out of the win over Ohio State after the '20 campaign. Alabama's five-season record while Moore was there was 58-10.
Moore joins the Jets' safeties room that includes fifth-year pro Andre Cisco, the unrestricted free agent signee from Queens, NY, Syracuse University and the Jacksonville Jaguars; fourth-year Jet and three-year starter Tony Adams; Jarius Monroe, who played in five games as an undrafted free agent rookie last season, and first-year player Jaylin Simpson.
