Cleveland Browns starting defensive tackle Malik McDowell was arrested for assault on a deputy and public exposure in Florida, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported Tuesday.

Per the police report from the Broward Sheriff's Office, the former was labeled a "violent attack" that left the deputy "dazed" on Monday in Deerfield Beach, Fla. The deputy claims that McDowell charged "at full speed with closed fist."

The incident began after a call was received that a man was walking naked near a school, per the newspaper.

McDowell, 25, was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence and exposing himself in public.

McDowell is no stranger to having run-ins with law enforcement, notably a DUI in September 2017 and an allegation of disorderly conduct three months later. He was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, resisting arrest and assault in February 2019.

Per the police report, McDowell remains on probation in Michigan.

The Browns released the following statement on Tuesday morning:

"We are aware of the very concerning incident and arrest involving Malik McDowell and are in the process of gathering more information. We understand the severity of this matter and our thoughts are for the well-being of all involved. ... No further comment at this time."

McDowell recorded 33 tackles, three sacks and one fumble recovery in 15 games (14 starts) this season.

He was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He sustained a head injury in an ATV accident that summer and never played for the Seahawks, who waived him and placed him on the non-football injury list.
