No leaks from Obama camp about VP pick

Cleveland News.Net
Thursday 21st August, 2008

Barack Obama claims to have chosen a running mate, but has said he won't reveal the name until a major rally is held on Saturday his home state of Illinois.

Obama has also refused to say whether he's notified his pick or whether he has told his campaign team.

The Democrat senator has already flagged that he will appear with his choice on Saturday at the Old State Capitol in Springfield, Illinois, where he launched his presidential campaign in February 2007.

Mr Obama was widely thought to be considering Senators Joe Biden of Delaware and Evan Bayh of Indiana along with Governors Tim Kaine of Virginia and Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas.

None of them has suggested there has been any contact with Mr Obama so far.

On Thursday, Obama spent part of the day with Governor Kaine, who reportedly told a colleague Wednesday that he believed he was on the short list.

But the current favourite is Senator Biden.

Obama campaigners believe Obama favours Senator Biden's experience and tough campaign style. Biden has served 35 years in Congress, while Obama has served three.

Meanwhile, new polls out this week show Obama is neck-and-neck with rival John McCain and still has yet to win over some supporters of Democratic primary rival Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The polls have also sparked fresh discussions about whether Obama could make a surprise selection of Clinton as his running mate.
