Aircraft catches fire on runway

In New Delhi, an Air Mauritius plane with 241 passengers and 11 crew on board had to abort take off after the pilot noticed a fire in the undercarriage of the aircraft.

The incident occurred at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International airport.

The cause of the fire has been put down to an technical fault in the aircraft.

The Air Mauritius plane was to fly to the Mauritius capital Port Louis.

Officials say flight movements at the airport were normal and all passengers from the flight were evacuated and taken to a hotel.

The Flights should be properly checked technically before take off so that such incidents should not happen in future

The Air Mauritius plane was to fly to the Mauritius capital Port Louis.

There is only one airport in Mauritius and it is not in Port Louis.
If it was to land in Port Louis it would have crashed anyway.

I see on www.airmauritius.com that the reason to this incident is a bird strike and not a fire..

Sahara Mumbai Hindi News strip on 4th Aug. 2008

Today we seen a running news strip between 7.15am to 7.30am. on Sahara Mumbai (newschannel) in Hindi that “Bird-hit plane, wheel catches fire at Delhi airport” . Hope this was an old news i.e. last month July. I phoned to air mauritious office,Mumbai.
